In Praise of Libraries

Defending one of my favorite public institutions

Last month I was back in my hometown of Stillwater, Minnesota to give a talk at the local historical society. Looking for a quiet place to gather my thoughts and tweak my presentation, I found myself back in a building where I’d happily spent many hours in my teenaged years: the Stillwater Public Library.
