I was going to write a devotional this morning about a troubling story that the lectionary omits from this week’s Old Testament reading: God strikes down a man who puts his hand on the Ark of the Covenant to steady it during a jubilant procession. But yesterday afternoon, I abruptly lost all desire to write about a sudden, shocking death.
